Résumé : | Employers are demanding that students are better prepared for work, though views on what this means in practice vary. The study found that there is wide variation in how institutions are developing student employability. Some are focusing on helping students to prepare for and obtain jobs as an end-of-programme activity (typically via careers departments). Others are treating employability as integral to curriculum design, delivery and formative/ summative assessment beginning at the start of a programme, all with a view to students taking ownership of their ’lifelong employability’. The reported case studies highlight this variation. Some reflect top-down institutional approaches driven by senior management and others where bottom- up approaches are instigated by innovators, though not necessarily taken-up more widely by the institution.
