Résumé : | The qualification levels reached by young people entering the French labour market have increased from one generation to the next. At the same time, occupations are requiring more skills. These two trends are not occuring at the same rate, however, since the former is happening faster than the latter. Occupations are therefore being taken up by people with increasingly high qualifications. This change in qualification standards is mainly due to demographic factors, but it also reflects a complete change in social representations about qualifications and skills. This change has also affected the transition to work and the career prospects of the younger generations |
