RĂ©sumĂ© : | This issue of Entreprises et Histoire, being a âfirstâ to tackle emotions as an object for business historians and management scholars, simultaneously reflects ontological and methodological problems in the integration of emotions to business history research. The issues at stake are of various nature: the definitions of emotions as opposed to sentiments or feelings, their evolutionary nature over long periods but moreover the status of emotions as a âseriousâ subject legitimate for studying managerial issues. Do serious business historians want to be associated to a possibly âfutileâ and difficult to measure object? In their attempt to reimagine business history, Philip Scranton and Patrick Fridenson mention several paths to explore such as failures and projects per instance; they also briefly look at passions (p. 33), but do not mention emotions per se. |
